In ancient philosophy it is believed that the entire univierse was created just by the vibrations created by the sound of the word OM. Nisvann is the sanskrit word for SOUND, symbolizing power, energy and the universe in its purest form. Just as the universe it created,Sound is a raging beast of raw power that has an unimaginable number of forms and can raise a storm or calm a volcano or simply move thousands and millions of people in ways unlike anyhing else. Old tales tell of how Miyan Tansen almost burned from the inside when he sang the raag Deepak and how his daughter then exhibited control over the weather by singing Raag Megh Malhaar and made it rain to save his life. Nisvann is an attempt to gain some semblance of control over that mightiest of universal forces by envoking its ever changing, varied and versatile form to make an impact, a change in this world we live in today.

There could be many reasons why every now and then a group of youngsters decide to form a band. This quintet simply wants to make good music and have a good time while they’re at it. After a painstakingly long search for a drummer, the line up was completed finally on 10.02.2009. MH 04’s music is based on a concept which only a few bands have dared to follow in the past: Alternative rock music based on Indian melodies and ragas. The band’s members come from various backgrounds and thereby bring in diverse musical influences, a fact which acts as the requisite catalyst for many of the band’s creative endeavours. With every new composition the band strives harder to achieve the fusion of the alternative rock sound with exquisite melodic tranquility of Indian melodies. Almost all the compositions of the band have a distinct melody attached to them while retaining a heavy and groovy alternative rock sound. The name of the band couldn’t have been better thought of as the boys from Thane get all geared up to serenade the crowds with their music. The line up consists of Anand, Vikrant, Muni, Nikhil and Kiron. Here’s a little bit about every member of MH 04.

Formed in 2005, Half Step Down began gigging in 2006 as essentially a rock ‘n’ roll band, though it would be more accurate to acknowledge their sound as a versatile mish-mash incorporating elements of the blues, alt-rock, funk and reggae. Consciously refusing to let themselves be fenced in by genres, they derive their sound from influences and inspirations ranging from Led Zeppelin, RHCP, and Dave Matthews to Rachmaninoff, Marley, and Django Reinhardt. In early 2007 the band made it to GIR with their track Overture to Outerspace, which subsequently launched them on a much vaster platform. They spent most of the following year touring the country, taking time out in June to appear on Channel [V]’s show Launch Pad. They wrapped ‘07 with a highly acclaimed unplugged performance in their city, Delhi, where their cover of Redemption Song stood out as one of the critics’ finest of the evening. Known for their antics on stage, HSD are perhaps as much the performers, as they are the musicians. With a hedonistic approach to music, they maintain an air of fun that remains a key quotient despite lineup changes and other minor disruptions. The nomenclature of the band is derived from the fact that the band tune their guitars a step down from standard tuning. Half Step Down are Dhaval (vocals), Carl (bass), Shiv (piano/organ), Srijan (drums) and Karan (guitar/backing vocals).

There’s a lot that has been said and a lot that can be said about the mad scientists that have created and feed Split. But in a nutshell, they are a bunch of good friends, a quintet of drinking buddies, and musicians that know how to floor a tune. Split was formed in 2001 and, after the usual rock 'n' roll roulette of line-up changes, broken strings, lost equipment and assorted mishaps, settled on the perfect formula for chaos. With Garreth on vocals, Mel and Aviv on guitars, Shekhar on bass and Nigel on drums, Split’s music has conquered stages, hearts, and minds across the country. Split's music is equally about conflict and resolution. A slick construction of wit and drunken wisdom, with baritone bass and pounded drums that chase edgy guitar riffs and screaming solos right down to a breakdown of nuclear proportions. The themes range from the epic to the mundane; from slimy evangelists to train travel, from revolution to becoming “adult”, and from existential angst to the eternal favourite – a broken heart. Split has played the pants off festivals like ‘Independence Rock’ & ‘GIR’ more than once, not to mention ‘Eastwind’ & ‘June Rock Out’ .They have also performed at events like ‘Yamaha Roxx’, ‘RSJ Pubrockfest’ and ‘Channel V- Launch pad’ and have been featured twice on India's premier Indie Unmetal compilation ‘Stupiditties’ as well as on GIR’s Volume X.

When the Traveling Rivers woke up one morning from their unsettling dreams, they refused to find themselves changed into a monstrous vermin. And of the desire to sound out their refusal, this strange looking band, half-men-half-vermin, weird but wonderful started making their music. With their distinctive hybrid of folk, blues, introspection, jazz and all the genuine, honest music of the universe, the riverine band remains in a constant state of flux, plunging their eager proboscis everywhere, genre after genre, artist after artist, experience after experience, into the vast unknown recesses of the internet and the illegal. Still in their nascent days, the band holds tremendous promise, takes its music seriously, and takes the serious musically.

FIVE8 is a progressive band from Delhi and was formed in the summer of 2005 at Kirori Mal College. With a keyboard player prone to untimely panic attacks and obsessed with funk, syncopation and bringing that ultra cool "feel" to everything we play; a bass player who brings to the table a rare combination of unbridled enthusiasm, formidable technique and killer rhythm; a guitar player working relentlessly – not just on the instrument but also on a time machine that is sure to bring Vito Brata back for another roar. A drummer who has no issues with meter, technique, genre and causing permanent damage to our eardrums with those overpowering rimshots. And a vocalist who comes into practise after sweating it out with an Indian classical choir and undoubtedly hits those exact same notes you heard Sebastian Bach hit a moment ago[with the vibrato and everything;)]. What we DO care about is playing well together, sounding tight(and then cranking that up a notch or two), about coalescing our various influences into something innovative.

The band began with a group of five students teaming up to represent Xavier Institute of Communications at the city’s most prestigious inter-collegiate festival, Malhar held in August this year. On realizing that they shared a lot in common besides their musical inclinations, the band decided to take this group a step forward, roped in a bassist and thus formed, Snatch D’Monk. Snatch D’Monk is a Mumbai based versatile rock band that cuts through varied genres of music with musicians from across the country and from an array of backgrounds. With influences ranging from funk to alternative rock and blues to progressive rock, the band is slowly gaining recognition for their unique style of music. Capitalizing on a catchy name which does have a lot of sub-text and connotations to it (will be revealed soon!); the band hopes to make a strong impact in the Indian rock scene with their live acts and records. Some of the band’s influences include the likes of Jamiroquai, Alice in Chains, Bob Marley, Days of the New, Dave Matthews Band, Eddie Vedder, Eric Clapton, Frank Zappa, Incubus, RHCP, Hendrix, John Mayer, Jose Gonzalez, Led Zeppelin, Nick Drake, Phish, Porcupine Tree, Zakk Wylde, Tenacious D, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Blues Traveler. The band doesn’t believe in covering music literally but making each cover their own. The band has recorded two rough demo tracks at present and intends recording loads more in the near future. “Something Else” and “6 March, 2111”, though very different from each other, both stem from the variety, versatility and different styles of the band members. Snatch D’Monk is Keegan D’Mello – Vocals/Harmonica Sameer Suri – Lead Guitar Arjun – Guitar/Vocals Nikhil Carneiro – Keyboards Sambhav Khandelwal – Drums Demetrius D’Souza – Bass Having gigged around the city at venues like Not Just Jazz by the Bay, Celebrate Bandra Festival, FIrangi Paani, the Monks are very much eyeing newer venues to SNATCH a few more fans their way.

Formerly known as The Apostles, Zinc is a Delhi based band and has been together for 3 years now. The band was formed in July 2006 in school by Akshay Kaushik, Madhav Moorthy, Gautam Menon, and Mansur Farhat. It featured Akshay and Madhav on vocals and guitars while Gautam was on drums and Mansur on bass. Our first gig was at the farewell for the class XII batch. In the following year, we played at the school numerous times and took part in 2 interschool competitions. With the end of school life in 2007, we entered different colleges. The band was featured on the Delhi university local radio station and also got a chance to play at the Hindustan Times Youth Nexus (2007) and Ramjas College (Delhi University). Summer 2008 brought about some changes in the lineup with Mansur leaving the band and the additions of Soumya Jha on lead vocals. The band also had Soumyajeet Roy on keyboards during this time. Zinc, then, proceeded to record an EP with Basement Records Studios, which is now available. Unfortunately, for now, the EP is available only in New Delhi and all interested in purchasing their copy should contact the band members. One of the songs on the EP, Jinxed, was even reviewed by Rolling Stones Magazine and was given 3 out of 5 stars. The band has also played at the IP College For Women, as a part of their film festival. In December 2008, Zinc played a 2-hour set at Terrace Garden in TDI mall, Rajouri Garden. Most recently, the band entered the NSIT rock competition, Avalanche, with the addition of their new bassist, Nawal Alvin Minj, and they reached the elimination round after creating quite an impression. In addition to this, Zinc has been regularly gigging at the Living Room Café in Hauz Khas Village. Zinc has also recently added Nitin Saksena on rhythm guitar. Zinc's sound has been the subject of much debate since it does not conform to any particular genre. Featuring a host of influences, ranging from jazz to progressive rock, Zinc's music is charachterised by haunting vocals, blues influenced guitaring, signature drum beats, all defined and complemented by mature song writing. In addition, the band also tries to bring in a flavour of Art Rock, featuring long improvisational passages, which are important components of their music.

While firmly rooted in Metal, the band effortlessly displays unbridled innovation and virtuosic skill combined with catchiness, raw power and melodic passages. Blood & Iron is accessible to a wide spectrum of listeners without ever sacrificing the integrity required to play this form of music. Spook is a 5 piece pop-rock alternative band It was born out of a previous 1-gig fun covers outfit played by drummer Zain Calcuttawala, violin player-Clavell Santiago and guitarist/vocalist Akshay Deodhar. Wanting to complete the band and move past the whole covers rut that bands get stuck in, after much searching, almost in the same week they came across keyboard player, Anis Gandhi(of Sledgehammer fame) who bass player Sonam Lama. The 5 instantly clicked and got together for their first show at Cafe Goa for BEP's UTV music and movies night opening for the band Aftertaste. With various influences of Funk, Metal, Progressive Metal, Western Classical, Grunge , Classic and pop-rock, Sonam and Akshay do most of the songwriting with the entire band actually coming together to complete and arrange songs. The music that the 5 churn out is an interpretation by 4 people of a song written by the fifth. While they are constantly working on their increasing originals set, the band are at present in the process of recording a 5 song EP to get some of their music out and not just leave it online. With 5 shows under their belt and 2 more coming up, Spook hopefully shall have their music well known and widespread. Concentrating more on how they sound as opposed to how they look, Spook are around and here to stay! Overhauls can be powerful, and more so when they happen in your own garage. Spook is a band that’s a manifestation of pure, unbridled, raw energy. A collective of five band expats barely-into-their-twenties minds; Spook sounds fresh off the laundromat – spiffy. Akshay Deodhar on vocals and rhythm guitar is the songwriting talent, crafting the incendiary musicianship of Anis Gandhi on piano, Zain Calcuttawala on percussion and drums, Clavell Santiago on violin and Sonam Lama on bass into scattered sound-packets stitched in melodies and harmonies. Grunge based, heavy, reverberating sounds echo in a spiral of constant whirlpool of musical emoting – Spook represent everything a young band should be. Passionate. That’s the least you can expect out of an outfit represented by a gawking Owl called Pedro as the mascot, considering their influences range from Pearl jam, Chris Cornell, Coldplay, RHCP, GooGoo Dolls, Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters, The Calling and Kings of Leon to name a few. Progressively new age, yet rebelliously old-skool; Spook songs bridge the gaps between instrumental solos and melodic riffs enchantingly. Diverse logic may be easy to define each band mate’s musical heritage Post their one gig at Café Goa where they played a 3 song solo set, where a call for resurrection from a threatening damper called power failure only displayed their eclectic performance skills. This be true grunge and just made you raise your fingers in a m/. ‘Spook’ have the potential to spook the daylights out of you. Hang around and lend an ear!

(the story so far) : no safe word started when singer songwriter kishore (adam and the fish eyed poets http://www.myspace.com/afisheyedpoet) got bored of writing/recording songs in his bedroom and wanted to start a psychobilly band(ie punk garage rockabilly influences) in the tradition of the gun club and the cramps just to shake up chennai's boring non-adventurous music scene ....Kishore and guitar player Vikki kannon formed the band on the infamous night the "black lips" destroyed Chennai ....inspired by the sheer madness of the gig, they recruited charan and simi (who were similarly jaded with the stagnant music scene) to handle the rhythm section and within 2 days kishore wrote a fresh setlist of ten songs and set things in motion , the band played their first gig with "them clones" and "junkyard groove" at the rollingstone summer tour on the 23rd of may...which was followed by several more gigs in the following month each more intense than the last, generating a real buzz about the city with thier lethal combination of a wild, agressively cathartic live act and cleverly crafted pop songs (which the band are currently recording in kishore's bedroom) when asked about their sound ,the band claims they were looking for a "dark ominous, blatently sexual psychobilly/blues sound while maintaining a refined and literate streak .." and their live act aims to express the "nihilistic and hedonistic urges of a lost generation trapped in the crossfire of conflicting cultures all while serving to entertain like no other indian band has done before",the band admits that despite the adventurous artistic approach(such as playing a toy casio plugged into distortion pedals and many other crazy little stunts) the eventual objective is to write good effective pop songs, which is obvious in the chaotic ear worms that are "hack hack hack" and "machete rules", the disturbing yet inspiring "porky's last stand" and a gory reinvention of Michael Jackson’s "billie jean" which fits seamlessly into the dark lurid world of love lust and murder scripted by Kishore who's says that his lyrical objective for this band is " to write the greatest b grade horror movie musical of all time". The immediate influences cited by the band include "the cramps , the gun club , nick cave and the bad seeds, the birthday party, the gories ,the stooges , mc5 , the horrors , patti smith ,tom waits , screaming jay hawkins , howlin wolf , new york dolls, the rolling stones circa exile on main street ,oblivions ,the sex pistols , bad brains, and several other bands of a similar vein they also admit to all share a common love for british pop music like the smiths the la's, blur and the beatles among others Kishore Krishna - vocals ,and miscellaneous noise emmiters Vicky Kannon - guitars Simi Singh - bass Charan B - drums

Sometime in early 2008, Paradigm Shift sprung into existence. They realized how their outlook on music had uncanny similarities though influences were vast and varied. These fundamental commonalities helped them transcend what other bands would often stumble over. Capitalizing on this chemistry they have worked fervently to identify and hone their sound. Blending the infectiousness of funk, crunchy rock n’ roll and staccato of progressive with hints of Indian classical in a musical kaleidoscope that deftly ventures out of the realms of each. Despite their straightforward approach to composition, Paradigm Shift’s technical arsenal is singular that never alienates the listener. In fact it causes unpredictable, if not consistent bursts of head banging, violent foot tapping and vigorous cheering. With the drummer providing a bedrock foundation, the guitarists bringing forth melodic irresistibility, the bassist, unrestrained energy and the vocalist musical rapture, Paradigm Shift hopes to keep evolving with their drive and love for sound. With eight album capable originals which are Damn, In Too Deep, Radiance, Funk This, High, Stud Farm, Fuzzy Logic, All Wrong, Mother Perfect, Psychonaut; The band has won over mobs of fans and critics alike. Each time on stage, Paradigm Shift put on a vividly energized show for their music enthusiasts, combining their originals with covers of all time favorite numbers from bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Queen, Wolfmother, Pearl Jam, Guns n’ Roses, Foo Fighters and The Rolling Stones among others. Tempo Tantrick’s music, while difficult to classify into the rigid confines of a genre, infuses elements of funk, electronica and break beat, while also trying to amalgamate the same with a hint of both members' cultural diversities. Their uniquely diverse musical tastes set them apart from a large majority. To explain it sans the jargon, Tempo Tantrick’s music makes even the most uptight listener move. The principle that the duo works on is relatively simple – to make music that the listener can relate to, retain and recollect. There is no great philosophy or ideology behind the lyrics except that each song is based on something real and that description is what best represents the duo and their music. While Tempo Tantrick primarily functions as a duo, they aim to collaborate with various musicians to create a dynamic that is always fresh and diverse.

In the beginning, the four piece band hailing from the hills of Aizawl ,Mizoram was formed back in 2005, as a simple local band for doing and performing covers and other local gigs. But, however during the fall of last year 2006's , their pathway took an adverse turn when they discovered their creativity for songwriting and arrangements ;hence-onwards - performing and managing their own original compositions with having the crowd go wild with their killer performances everywhere . Within a short span of a few months, they were able to release their E.P called "Rhythm of a Revolution" with no signing on recording labels as such. The band likes to call their music as Junk rock since it contains progressions of various genres of music which ranges from - jazz, blues, reggae, funk and to extreme metal. Therefore, in the end their music makes out to what can all be truly unified and be signified as a pure "Rock & Roll". The four piece band is triggered by a soul-full six-string slinger, a thundering and groovy bass player, implemented with a battering ram from the backside and with killer performances from the front-man. Though for purposes of entirely official nature, we like to categorize Fire Exit as a band that plays “Progressive Alternative Rock”, we truly believe that it falls in the category of bands that are almost impossible to categorize under one single genre of music. Our music is a combination of rock, metal and electronic sounds. The band essentially blends great vocal melody along with instrument harmony, and is based on experimentation with varied time signatures, jazz-influenced bass-lines and an Indian percussion instrument. But at the same time, we like to keep our music simple. As a group of musicians brewing our styles together, we also lay equal focus on the way we “sound” live and on record, giving importance to not just what we play, but also how all that playing comes together and mixes when it comes out on speakers; hence immense stress is laid on the production of our tracks. Our focus as a band is to create a sound unique to the band, with varied styles of rock, metal and psychedelia coming together for great listening pleasure to both the common listener and other musicians. We lay stress on improving our songwriting and playing as we grow together as a band, looking to create mature and sensible music.

Umbrella Vibe, formerly known as Zodiac, started off with a spark of enthusiasm from Anjo and Aniket, sometime during the end of 2007.With the help of competitions, we raised a few eyebrows, and we had the spark rolling. Later, Shannon George(The guitar loop phantom blaster) who was our second guitarist stepped forward and took lead. Change as we know, is inevitable, and so it was, and in October 2008 Alan Rego joined us as our permanent drummer. There has been no looking back , and our first major gig was Great Indian Rock 2008. The band was featured in the GIR compilation and later shows like iris, competitions like mood indigoand Saarang did well to boost our confidence. More importantly it channelized our music, our sound. Joshua Abraham joined us in 2009adding emotion to the songs, worth dying for. Our music is emotional, ambient, and our lyrics sprinkle salt on a few issues that we really feel about. Songs like Sunshine Africa, Save Your Money, World Wide Web talk about a daily pattern we’ve all noticed in the papers; so yes, our lyrics are current; they talk about now, the present.

Best Drummer Award at IIT Alchenringa Rock – O – Phonix (IIT Guwahati) 2010 With the competition growing each passing day, "Rock bands" of different genres are working hard in their fields. Music, love and brotherhood being its motto, we don't differentiate castes, religions or creeds in this field, rather all the Rock lovers enjoy & live on a rhythm of beat. Rock, being its one kind of music, attracts large number of people ranging from young to old. We believe that music knows no boundaries and it's always there to support you in your happy, excited, sad, love... etc hours. Cleave gets its meaning from the dictionary - "to split or cut something by using sharp or a heavy object", but we have somewhat personalised and transformed it as "crushing of evil by a force of music", we also believe in doing so in our society with our music. Just as we mentioned earlier, the competition is growing each passing day; we have created our genre and we called it "Progressive Seclusion Metal", under which, we composed many original songs based on fantasy, current situations, HIV/AIDS and historical facts and many other songs like Princess of Arabia, Dusk or Dawn, ART, Seven Years Devastation (Chahi taret khuntakpa), Soldier of Silence, Night of the damn etc being our original Numbers. We want to expose our original Numbers to our beautiful fans everywhere and make them realize we are always there for them in their hard times and good times. We also believe that band must have at least one original composition to expose themselves who really they are and what message do they want to convey to the people.

Blood & Iron was formed in early 2005 by Ashish and Vivin with the aim of forging a new kind of band, combining the best the various sub-genres of Metal have to offer. After numerous line-up changes, for about a year and a half, the band stabilized – and since then there’s been no looking back. Each member of the band brings a variety of influences which makes the synthesis – the music – of Blood & Iron so unique. While firmly rooted in Metal, the band effortlessly displays unbridled innovation and virtuosic skill combined with catchiness, raw power and melodic passages. Blood & Iron is accessible to a wide spectrum of listeners without ever sacrificing the integrity required to play this form of music. Blood & Iron carves a new path in the Metal universe and it’s not easily classified under any one genre. It’s just Metal, as pure as it gets without any compromises and without any restrictions.Blood & Iron released a self-titled demo album in 2007. It received an amazing response in the underground metal scene and has encouraged the band to strive for greater things.

Undying Inc is a combination of two different words that form a common ideology. A band known for making some overwhelming heavy music in today’s metal scene. Combining a lethal blend of speed, technique, groove and extreme aggression, Undying Inc create a sound they can proudly call their own. The band has been around since 2004 and has been consistently building a formidable reputation. Relentless intensity, sharp twists; rapid changes and fluid gear shifting make their music a lesson in monumental grind like ferociousness. The result is crushing! Like adrenaline in the bloodstream, Undying Inc is at once powerful, explosive and yet abstract. UI live is a wrecking ball, having honed their destructive skills to such an extent, that violent mosh-pits break out at even the smallest venues they play.

Dischordian began as an attempt to move away from the wall of sound and aggression and testosterone that makes up most rock music. Dischordian is constantly evolving and is today a three-piece acoustic band whose members play guitars, harmonica, trumpet, djembe and a variety of other percussion instruments. The music incorporates all the sounds I have loved and learned from since I was a child, including country, pop, rock ‘n’ roll, punk, metal, folk, and a multitude of styles that have no real labels. Dischordian has just finished its as yet untitled debut album which should be released by the summer of 2010.

"CLEAVE" of the people, for the people & by the people (Winner of Manipur Rock Fest 2009-2010 including best Guitarist, best Drummer, best Bassists, best Vocalist and Red Ribbon Superstar Band of Manipur (Manipur Idol) 2009-2010, including best vocal imphal west at manipur idol.
